What do they look like?

Spiders come in many shapes and sizes, and most of the ones in and around Delaware homes are hunters that eat other insects. The University of Delaware calls most local spiders more friend than foe, and says wolf spiders won't hurt you. The one to know is the black widow. UD says it's the only venomous spider found in Delaware. If you're not sure what you've got, we can take a look.

Signs you have them

  • Webs in corners, eaves, windows, basements, and garages
  • Egg sacs in webs or tucked into corners
  • Lots of other insects around, since spiders follow their food

Are they dangerous?

Most spiders here aren't a threat to people. UD names the black widow as Delaware's only venomous spider, so if you think you've found one, don't handle it. Spiders also eat other pests, including stink bugs, which is why UD suggests leaving some outdoors.

How Wolfe treats them

We treat around the outside of the home where spiders live and hunt, and we knock down the webs and egg sacs we can reach. Since spiders follow their food, we'll also point out other insect problems that keep them coming back. All of our work comes with a 30-day warranty. If pests come back within 30 days of a treatment, call us and we'll come back out at no extra charge.

How to keep them out

  • Knock down webs and egg sacs with a broom or vacuum.
  • Seal cracks and repair window screens.
  • Cut down on other bugs around the house, since spiders follow their food.
