Termite Treatment in Kent County, DE

If termites are active, we'll explain what we'd do in plain terms and treat the soil around your foundation to stop them.

What we do

Termite-damaged wood under a window sill, hollowed out and crumbling

Termite treatment isn't a do-it-yourself job. Subterranean termites live in the soil and travel into wood through mud tubes, so treatment has to reach them where they live. We use a liquid soil treatment. We apply termiticide to the soil around the foundation by trenching, rodding, or drilling through concrete, so termites coming up from the ground hit treated soil. Purdue Extension notes that liquid treatments start working right away. Wolfe is licensed by the Delaware Department of Agriculture. Our termite treatments come with a 1-year termite warranty. After the first year, you can keep it active with a yearly inspection and renewal fee.

Why do termites need a pro?

The termites you see are a small part of the colony. A colony can hold 100,000 to 1,000,000 termites, and they can travel up to 150 feet from the nest to find food. Most of them stay in the soil, so tearing out damaged wood doesn't get rid of the colony.

A large termite colony can eat dozens of pounds of wood a year. One University of Florida lab study works out to about 80 pounds a year for a colony of a million termites. That study used Formosan termites, a southern species. Delaware's eastern subterranean termites are similar but not identical.

How do we decide where to treat?

We decide after the inspection, based on where the termites are and how your foundation is built. A slab, a crawl space, and a basement are each treated a little differently. We explain our plan before we start.

What should you do after treatment?

Treated soil wears down over time as it gets dug, graded, and rained on. The yearly inspection is how we catch new activity early.

  • Keep mulch and soil pulled back from the siding.
  • Fix leaks and keep water draining away from the house.
  • Try not to dig along the foundation where we treated. If you need to, let us know.
  • Call us if you see new mud tubes or swarmers.

How we treat it

  • Trenching and rodding

Along the outside of the foundation, we treat the soil in a trench or inject it below the surface.

  • Drilling through concrete

Where a slab, porch, or garage floor covers the soil, we drill small holes and treat the soil beneath it.

  • Conditions to fix

We point out wood touching soil, moisture, and debris that invite termites back.

What to expect

  • 1. Inspect

We start with an inspection to confirm termite activity, find where they're getting in, and look at your foundation.

  • 2. Treat

We give you a quote, and once you say yes, we treat the soil around your foundation. We use EPA-registered products applied according to the label, and we'll tell you when kids and pets can go back into treated areas.

  • 3. Follow up

Our termite treatments come with a 1-year termite warranty. After the first year, you can keep it active with a yearly inspection and renewal fee. If you sell the house, the termite warranty transfers to the new owner.

How to get ready

  • Clear stored items away from the foundation walls in your garage, basement, and crawl space.
  • Make sure we can reach the crawl space door and any outside walls behind decks or shrubs.
  • Let us know about any past termite treatment on the house.
  • Plan to keep kids and pets out of the way while we work. We'll tell you when they can go back into treated areas.

Common questions

Is there a warranty?

Our termite treatments come with a 1-year termite warranty. After the first year, you can keep it active with a yearly inspection and renewal fee. If you sell the house, the termite warranty transfers to the new owner.

What happens at the yearly renewal?

We inspect your home and keep your termite warranty active for another year. Call us for the renewal fee.

How much is termite treatment?

It depends on the property and the pest. Call us and we'll give you a quote.

How fast does it work?

Purdue Extension notes that liquid soil treatments start working right away. Call us if you see new mud tubes or swarmers.

Can I treat termites myself?

We don't advise it. Penn State Extension advises against do-it-yourself termite treatment. Getting product into the soil all the way around a foundation takes the right equipment and training.

Do I need an inspection first?

Yes. It's $150, and we waive it when we do the treatment. We inspect before treating so we know where termites are active and what your foundation needs.
